Category: Events

Event description:
‘…Sakkad sangatha mellya, sakkad laagin sariya. Aamche thaalle ek kariya, ani Moriyek hogulsunya…’
Sounds familiar?
Yes, it will soon be that time of the year again. That time, when Mother Mary’s Nativity is celebrated ceremoniously with the traditional practice of floral showers from children.
And this time around, it will take on a special significance as the Church plans to have, for the first time, Novenas on all the nine days leading to the feast on September 8.
The Konkani Community of Sts. Peter and Paul Church, Ruwi will celebrate the Nativity of Mother Mary (which is popularly known as Monthi Festh in Mangalore) on Tuesday, 8th September 2009, at 8.00 p.m.
The evening’s program will include blessing of the Bambino (Statue of Infant Mary), showering of flowers at the altar arranged near the Grotto, followed by high mass in Konkani at the church. Rev. Fr. John Harry D’ Souza OFM Cap, Editor of popular Konkani Monthly, Sevak, will officiate at this celebration.
Organizers have requested parents to send their children with flowers - preferably in paper plates - to the main parish hall by 7.15 p.m. so as to make necessary arrangements for the procession to the Grotto.
And for the first time in the history of the Konkani community in the Sultanate of Oman, there will be Nine Days of Novena, which will be conducted from Sunday, 30th August to Monday, 7th September 2009.  On all the Novena days there will be a mass in Konkani at 8.15 p.m., followed by the Novena. Children will honor Infant Mary with offerings of flowers at the end of the Novena.
This is indeed a special occasion. Let us all join in the ceremonies and make it extra special!
