Easter Fiesta 23 April 2009 PDF Print

What a splendid Easter Fiesta it was! Lovely weather, perfect ambience, such a beautifully decorated hall, susegado outdoors seating, sumptuous buffet with well pickled sorpotel, prizes galore, great music from two top bands, children’s games, dancing and more dancing. But the best part of it all was the wonderful turnout of Goans and their guests. It was an evening to remember. Sadly, we couldn’t manage a venue on another day, and so many more could not attend due to First Holy Communion parties.

Kudos to Anthony Lourence for his most able leadership that ensured perfection and everybody’s cooperation. He was ably assisted by Boney Vas, who worked most zealously to see that everything went off as planned.

The GCO Managing Committee records its immense gratitude to:
  • Savio Carvalho: The many colourful banners and posters displaying the GCO logo, volunteer badges, and novelty dance GCO caps
  • Savio Martyres: Hall and outside decorations
  • Talentz: Lights and sound systems
  • Bosco D’Souza: Coordinating the PA system and video display
  • Seby Fernandes: Video camera
  • Domingos D’Souza: Sale of tickets, gate arrangements
  • Manuel and Joyce Fernandes: Cooking sorpotel
  • Sebastian Almeida: Tables
  • Leila de Souza: Table decorations
  • Shaliny Henriques: Casting the program and behind the stage arrangements
  • Samantha Vas, Michael Fernandes and Isidore Fernandes: Compères
  • GoAfrica and Cross Connections: Great music that had everyone continuously on their toes
  • Fr. John Fernandaz and Holy Spirit Church Ghala: Rental of the premises
  • Sponsors: OUA Travels (two tickets Muscat-Goa return), Air Arabia (two tickets Muscat-Goa return), Talentz (gifts for spot prizes), Al Hamadi Fisheries (pork for sorpotel, brunch voucher for best dancing couple), Fahmy Furniture (table cloths stitched and gifted specially for the occasion).

Sunday, 01 March 2009
In December 2008 the GCO Managing Committee announced a contest to select the best name for the proposed GCO Newsletter.

We are happy to inform you that we received a splendid response. 40 entries!!!

The contest judges, inclusive of Mrs. Angela Almeida, Mrs. Mildred Fernandes, Mr. Celso Fernandes and Mr. Anthony Lourence, were requested to select the most apt, unique, catchy, Goan sounding name. Accordingly, each of the Judges screened the entries and prepared a shortlist. The only name that was common across all the 4 shortlists was NOMAN GOA or Hail Goa!

And so the winner is: The one and only Mr. PAUL FERNANDES.

Noman Goa will be displayed on the GCO website shortly and we will have a few printed copies available for distribution. Do send in any information that you wish to include in this newsletter to the following email address: This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it
